April – June 2018

“Gifts from Our Grandfather”

The grandchildren of Julius Pardi, an Italian born artist (1884-1961), present an exhibit of his classical artworks, poetry and musical compositions. Among the items on display will be drawings, porcelain bas reliefs, plaques, vases and plates honoring William Shakespeare, Galileo, Giuseppe Verdi, Thomas Edison, Charles Lindbergh and more. Many items were commissioned by General Electric, where Julius worked in the porcelain department for 47 years.


 


Our May Business Meeting will be held on Thursday May 17th at 7:00pm. Speaker and presentation to follow will be announced at the April Monthly meeting.


Garage Sale will take place on Friday, May 18th & Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 to 3:00
. WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help out. It has been an annual fundraiser and we have plans to make it easier to do. Please contact us if you are able to help in some way. Please call before dropping anything off for the garage sale. It is in the planning stages, with the hope that members will be able to help out and accomplish a fun day and profitable fundraiser for the Museum. Will keep you posted on Facebook pages and by email.



Pizza & Movie Night: Friday, May 25 at 6:30pm. The movie is “Big Night”. It is about a failing Italian Restaurant run by two brothers who gamble on one special night to save the business. It stars Stanley Tucci, Marc Anthony and Tony Shalhoub. Cost is $5 for pizza and refreshments. Seating is limited. Please make your reservations early. Phil Maiello, Chair.


Riunione dei Giovani (Youth Gathering): Celebrating Your Italian Heritage

Saturday, June 2, 2018, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

We are happy to offer this free program to young people of Italian heritage as an opportunity for them to gain an appreciation for and increased knowledge of their roots and will include a:

 short video and discussion about Italian heritage
 tour of the Museum
 demonstration, tasting, and discussion of Italian cuisine
 game of bocce or, if it rains, Tombola - Italian bingo
 presentation about taking oral histories from Italian ancestors
 lunch (pizza, soda, water, and Italian desserts)

Genealogy Class on Wednesday, June 6th at 11:00am. People often ask themselves: “I know my ancestors existed, how do I find them?” What do you do if you never asked where grandpa and grandma were born? This seminar will introduce participants in how to begin researching their Italian Heritage. The cost is $5, and the Instructor is John Capano. Please make your reservations by June 3rd.

Open House to celebrate the 39th birthday of the American Italian Heritage Association. On Tuesday, June 12th. Short program at 11:00am. Please stop in for some birthday cake and coffee from ll:00 to 2:00pm. Free admission and an opportunity to visit the Museum and our Member’s Art Show in the Special Exhibit Room.



Our Annual St. Anthony of Padua celebration will take place on Wednesday, June 13 at 11:15am. Program, reception and distribution of St. Anthony Bread. Reservations required by June 10th. Donation requested.

Path through History Weekend will take place at our Museum on Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 17. It is a weekend to put a spotlight on history. We have so much to see that it is an important part of history. Free admission for all fathers on Sunday, June 17, Father’s Day.

Our June Business Meeting and Cultural Presentation will take place on Thursday, June 21st at 1:00pm. The presenters are Marino D’Orazio, J.D., Ph.D., and Natale Caruso. The topic “The House on the Fondaco Plain” by Natale Caruso. The book is about Teresa Liccardi, a young widow, shutters her ancestral house and leaves her small town in Sicily, with her sons, for a new life in America. The book is a stirring epic of the immigrant adventure. Please bring dessert for the social following the program. Open to the public.

Italian Meal on the Lawn: Friday, June 28th from 5:00-800. Delicious Italian food and entertainment. This is a fundraiser and an opportunity to visit with friends, enjoy great food and enjoy Italian food and music. Free admission to the Museum and an opportunity to visit our gift shop and thrift shop.

The Pruyn House will be holding “Italian Night”, Wednesday, July 18th. Italian food will be served and there will be an Italian band to hear and dance to. They have invited us to have an Italian Food booth, selling Italian meals and desserts at a reasonable price. The event starts at 5:00pm. There is a $5 donation to the event.

Our July Monthly Meeting and Cultural Presentation will take place on Thursday, July 19th. The Business Meeting starts at 7:00pm, followed by a presentation by Nick Colluccio (singer/DJ/Radio Host. His topic will be “Italian American Radio and Italian Music.” Nick is the host of the Italian Connection, an Italian Program on WVCR (88.3FM) every Saturday at 5:00pm. Nick’s love for great music shows, as he sings and plays songs of the past and present. Please bring dessert for the reception following the program. Open to the public.

June Museum hours Monday, Thursday & Friday 11:-2:00  Saturday & Sunday 12:00noon to 3:00

July & August Museum hours Monday, Thursday & Friday 11:-2:00  Saturday  12:00noon to 3:00

September 1st to December 31st. our hours are: Mon. Thur. and Friday 11 am to 2 pm . Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 3 pm.

January 1st to March 31st
the museum will only be open on Friday 11am-2pm. & Saturday. from 12 noon to 3 pm and by appointment.

The museum will be closed on Sunday during July and August.
